Default Ash Wednesday Is No More

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the end of the very good thing that has been Ash Wednesday.

From some bar called Detention to the Western Tavern to the Parkside to the Magnet, we've enjoyed the hell out of our little weekly variety show.

Thank you to each and every performer who has made our show what it was and to each and every person who ever saw it be that.

October 24, 2007 marks the end of Ash Wednesday's run.

Join us every Wednesday until then as we celebrate our very favorite performers at our very favorite show!

Thank you, everyone!

oh, i'm gonna miss ya ... but not as the popular song indicates the desert misses the rain - that's just horseshit. it's a desert! hello!

nah, i'll miss you more like a girl who got to perform a heck of a lot will miss the stage that gave her the opportunity to get up and make up something, would miss a show.

This is a tragedy.

Stan, Chris, Rachel, Betsy, Fed, Nick, Thunder and everyone in the greater Wednesday family...congratulations for putting up so many years of great shows, and thanks for being the best group of friends a guy could have.

So many great performers did their best and weirdest work at Shweds. Oh, heavy, heavy heart.

This makes my heart hurt. I met some of my favorite people in the world through performing and watching others perform at this show. Talk about a generous group of people, yeesh! There is no other show like it in New York and I don't know what, if anything, will fill the void left by it.

Thanks for the great opportunities and the warm and loving reception you always gave every performer. Y'all are amazing.

This show is one of the greatest things I have ever been a part of (dangle on, you crazy participle).

For years, I got to watch and play with the some of the absolute best talent in NYC. Thanks to so many of you for that. Thanks also to Schneider.

What?! This is an awesome show. This is a sad, sad day. Stan and Co are amazing.

I can't help feel responsible - we played the last Ash Wednesday and now it's no more. We killed it.

Forgive me world!

This is one of the first shows I ever wanted to perform in.

Surf N Turf got our sea legs here.

I debuted my first filthy solo monologue here.
Weep.

I performed at the Westside Tavern with you guys. Y'all were constantly entertaining and did some amazing improv. Good times.

I think we all agree that Skeeger almost getting murdered on stage by the bartender at Detention is one of the top 10 Ash Wednesday moments. What are the other 9? Come on, you VH1 list whores!*

*I am still available for VH1 talking head work. Call me.

Plus, I intend on being at every show! And Will Hines has offered to let me in for 60% of what I usually pay him!

Oh man. I love(d) this show and these guys and gal who run it!

Getting into improv really changed my standup, and this was the first place that showed me it still worked. It's my favorite place I've ever done stand up at, and that includes a 500-person audience judged by Gary Coleman (don't ask)! Incidentally, I also did the worst improv show I've ever done, probably including my Level 1 class show, here as well. But both are such memorable experiences.

Thanks for everything, Schweds. You guys are tops.

I would like to thank Ash Wednesday for allowing me to cultivate my "in your face" brand of comedy.

Here's to you, Chris, Stan, Rachel, Fed, Nick, Dave and Betsy.

This is indeed sad. How many years have you been doing this show?

The first Wednesday in November will be a sad sad day.

I wish Ben Whitehouse didn't kill the show.

Thanks to all the great folks who make this show happen. And Schneider.
