Thursday, Apr. 11th through Saturday, Apr. 13th 2002:
Chicago City Limits brings the Austin, TX comedy group, MR. SINUS THEATER, to NYC. (shows to include the 1980 film XANADU, a roller-skating disco musicalfantasy starring Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton John. Show Times: Thurs. Apr.11 @ 10:30pm, Fri. Apr. 12 @ 10:30pm, Sat. Apr. 13th @ Midnight). Take three of Austin's sharpest comedians, mix in some of the worstmovies in history, and what do you get? MR SINUS THEATER, of course! And, on April 11th, the Mr. Sinus crew (Jerm, John and Owen…see biographies attached) will be premiering a 3-night run in NYC, as they sit front row center before the movie screen with microphones in hand. Bad actors and incompetent directors beware! These clever watchdogs, with keen observation and lightning fast wit, can actually turn your sloppy films into comic gold…For example, the Mr. Sinus version of the film "Xanadu" recently sold out 10 consecutive shows in Austin, with some patrons attending the theater dressed as Kira, Olivia Newton-John's character, and others arriving with roller-skates on their feet. During the screenings people sang along with the ELO musical numbers, and the theater transformed into a great interactive Xanadu theme-party. Now, Mr. Sinus Theater is bringing the party to NYC for three raucous nights at Manhattan's premiere comedy club, and host of the city's longest running show, Chicago City Limits. Fans of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 television program rejoice, as these three Austin comics actualize the movie experience that the original MST3K could only hope to simulate. Get ready to laugh, 'cause MR SINUS is coming to your town, armed with flicks to give you that "so bad, but so good" feeling, we all secretly love…just be sure not to choke on your popcorn. "Hecklers par excellence" - Chris Garcia, Austin American Statesman "We hate people who talk during movies, unless they're really funny! And these guys are…if you miss the old Mystery Science Theater 3000 (and who doesn't?) then these sarcastic quipsters, working live without a net, will do your heart good." -J.C Shakespeare, Austin Chronicle About the film: XANADU: This is the story of two men…a lonely, aging clarinetist and his depressive sidekick, who both love the same mysterious girl in a peasant dress, leg-warmers, and roller-skates, who glows with thin neon outline like an outcast from the Disney movie, TRON. There's plenty of song and roller-dance as the 3 team up together to create the world's greatest disco parlor, Xanadu! About the venue: CHICAGO CITY LIMITS: 1105 First Avenue Longest running show in NYC, since the end of Fantastiks Call any time for reservations: 212-888-5233. Credit Cards accepted. SINUS THEATER Publicity and Management: Jerm Pollet (512) 374-9897 Website: www.mrsinus.com Email: nomoremilk@aol.com bios: JERM POLLET Since moving to Texas from New York City with his rap group, the Brothers Cup back in 1991, Jerm Pollet has been a long-time favorite in the local music scene. He helped form two popular punk bands, Gals Panic and Missile Command, and now plays solo under the name of Tall, Dark and Lonesome, in a style he calls "punk-rock campfire music."(each act has a CD). He was once RuPaul's tour manager, and has also performed live many times with Timothy "Speed" Levitch of "The Cruise" (ARTISAN Entertainment). Jerm's acting and music have been featured in Steven Soderbergh's "The Underneath" (Universal Pictures) and the Austin-based mockumentary "Butcher's 15" (Someday Soon Productions). Jerm is a comedian as well, and is a veteran member of the improv troupe, ComedySportz. OWEN EGERTON Owen has been a prominent name in Austin comedy for seven years. He's performed at Esther's Follies, Bad Dog Comedy Club, Cap City Comedy Club, The ComedySportz Playhouse as well as up and down the radio dial. He has been a regular improv-player with Austin's ComedySportz troupe and was also a member of the critically acclaimed sketch group, the Skinnies. He has performed all over the United States and England in support of his music-comedy CD, Big Thick Wooden Board. Who else could go so far on only a Casio Keyboard and some D-sized batteries?! JOHN ERLER John Erler is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Classics and writing a dissertation on physical attractiveness in Latin Literature. In his spare time John works at KVRX 91.7 FM, hosting Thursday morning's cult sensation, The Elk Mating Ritual Hour, and booking bands for Sunday night's Local Live show. A few may recognize John from his various unscheduled appearances at Karaoke bars singing Jimmy Buffet songs in the voice of Skeletor, He-Man's sworn nemesis. Like the other two members of Mister Sinus, John also writes and sings his own songs. According to John, his band, Big In Italy, can be seen whenever local club owners are "stricken by a momentary lapse of judgement." |

If you haven't caught a Mr. Sinus show -- you should. I've seen their screening of "Xanadu" and besides laughing at the film itself, Jerm, John and Owen have come up with some great additions. I've yet to leave one of their shows without laughing my ass off.
Plus, as far people go -- they're swell. ~Annie M. |
