Also, people decided you were referring to them as pansies because you used the word pansies.

In response to tumblr, because I don't want to keep posting this stuff on tumblr.

I get the whole "If" thing. I get it, I consider that whole "should they/shouldn't they" part of it over. Misunderstanding, all's fine.

What I think you could possibly apologize for isn't what you were trying to say, but how you say it. You could have said "fucking manned up" in a nicer way. And I know that sounds touchy feely, etc, and me being a pansy for whining about the words you chose, but I know for a fact that you are good friends with at least one member of Dreadnought. If I was on a team that did a show, and the next day you said online, even in the huge hypothetical/misunderstanding/shit storm that this whole thing is, you said that my team should have "fucking manned up," I would be personally offended at that. Not as an improviser, but as a friend. There are way better ways of saying what you want to say, about your friends, then the blunt, logical and harsh way that you choose to use frequently on this forum and tumblr. But, I'm not in Dreadnought, so I don't know what they think. Just what I, as a very good friend of yours, think.

I AM ALL EMOTION.

Also, Daddy is doing a show at Dallas BBQ.

Per Elvis Newman:

Quote:
Live this moment with joy, with purpose and with passion. And use this moment to inject into your life and your world the kind of substance and value that can last a lifetime. You cannot instantly change your circumstances. You can, however, instantly change the direction in which you're headed.
From all accounts, including the peculiar mixture of joy, shame, befuddlement and pride on the faces of Noah, Jesse and Don after this show, I think Dreadnought did Elvis proud.

I don't know toastface, but I hope it's okay to throw in my two cents anyway.

"If I had been a customer at Daioh Sushi, my waiter/waitress wouldn’t have gotten a tip. "

The waiter/waitress definitely should still get a tip, if not extra, if there is an improv show going on while they are slinging raw fish.

I still love you Pat!

I don't think anyone is trying to gang up on you - I just think a lot of people who were there (or who heard about this show and had an appreciation of what they understood to have happened) feel a justifiable desire to be very clear that they definitely manned up and weren't a bunch of pansies. The opposite, actually. And if you want to make huge assumptions that lead to pointed public proclamations, you should also be able to handle it when people come to the defense of those you are commenting on in such a harsh manner.
I am sorry I used the sentence, "They should have fucking manned up and dived straight into performing, instead of begging like a bunch of pansies for people to look at them." It was the only time I didn't couch everything in conditionals, because I was just rephrasing something I had already wrote. And I phrased it so harshly because I was pissed off at having to respond to a sarcastic dig.

In my mind, the whole time, "They" only meant "Dreadnought if and only if they tried to start their show by spending two minutes asking people to be quiet before they had done anything yet."

I'm sorry if anybody thought I was calling Don, Michael, Noah, Jesse, Dom, and Cathryn pansies. If they had started their show that way, I would have no problem telling them they were pansies to their faces.

But they didn't start their show that way, so my comment doesn't apply. It doesn't even make sense! It's as if I said, "They should have fucking improvised their scenes, instead of reading from printed scripts like a bunch of pansies."

I was trying to make a larger point, about demanding attention versus working for it. What happened at the sushi restaurant was pretty much irrelevant to that point, but nobody could seem to separate the two. I'm trying to say, yeah, it doesn't apply to their show, but that doesn't make it an invalid idea on its own.

So, yeah, I wish I had phrased that sentence more carefully, or not written it at all, and generally followed the rule of never writing a letter when you're angry.

Anyway, I'll be out and about this weekend (definitely at UNDER St. Marks on Saturday night), so anybody come and find me if you think it would make you happier to have some of my blood.

Maybe it is uncomfortable for you to feel called out, but when you are publicly calling a bunch of my students and friends pansies less than 24 hours after they've done something pretty rad, your social comfort is not my top priority.
Chris, you started a post with the words "Dear Pat Baer and Benzado." I don't mind that you posted your opinion in a public forum, I just wish you had made the effort to inform me you were doing so only because you claimed to be addressing it to me.

Can I call Chris Gethard a pansy for implying the Silver Bullet Band show was in a hostile environment? Or will that kick of another 3 pages of fighting amongst a bunch of people I like?

Oh God, What is the relationship here with the Raelian Organization exactly? How come that is not more of our entire focus in this thread? Raelians! I mean Raelians!!!! Please, if anyone knows how the Raelian's figure into this, post the info here or privately email me.

Sounds like an amazing event. I wish I could have seen it. Will there be an encore?

Elvis offered them a weekly slot, and 15% off everything for anyone who says they're with UCB (or maybe he just said "says they're a performer") on Wednesday nights. We're missing the real story here guys: reasonably priced sushi.

This show was fucking bold, fun and chaotic as hell. Table to table, moment to moment, the crowd varied from indifferent to hostile to fully engaged to participatory. If you're a random patron eating sushi that night*, whether you loved it or hated it, you've got a story and a memory now thanks to Dreadnought. They created an event. And that fucking rules.

*It's an underrated, important aspect of this experience that second-hand accounts might not understand- most of the people there were in two large groups at their tables, and also a couple tables out on dates, etc. So this show can't really be evaluated by how an individual would feel in a vacuum- it's about that shared experience.

There's a family out there that, for years onward, can laugh about their drunk matriarch alternately fighting and kissing a pack of lunatics that took over a sushi restaurant. So, hell yeah.
