It's true!!!

There's no tomorrow! You might get hit by a lazily pantomimed bus. That's what nine years of improv has taught me.

You want to develop a show? We'll work on it. You want to show me what you got and have me push you toward the next level? We'll work on it. You want me to work on a specific problem you think your team is having? We'll work on it.

I like to sidecoach when I feel like the team can handle it. I freeze the scene and ask questions. What's the game? What's your emotional relationship? What do you want right now from the other character?

"Freeze, why are you skydiving?"
"We're not skydiving."
"Awesome. We've narrowed it down. However we're two minutes in and there's no environment. Where are you?"
"In a living room?"
"Show me why you need to be in the living room. Unfreeze."

That sort of thing.

I charge between 20 and 30 bucks an hour - depending on what we're working on and the number of actors on the team.

I also firmly believe that if you can do a five minute scene that doesn't go haywire, you can do all of improv - from Musical to Harold to a Shortformy Show. So I usually concentrate on scenework, unless the group wants to work on something specific, like song structure.

Here's my resume:

Chicago City Limits National Touring Company
Organatron (a longform show at the PIT and The Drama Book Shop)
The Monday Night Musical (a longform show at the PIT)
Ka-Baam! (a long form comic book )
Feathers and Flannel (at the UCB marathon)
Skinny and Gay (a two person sketch show)
The End (a sketch show at UCB, written by Eliza Skinner)
Fairly Told - what happens after ever after? (director) (Chicago City Limits Longform Class Team)
Closet Drama, with Frank, Fish, and Fags (ensemble sketch show)
The Grove Weasels (director) (improv, Manteo NC)
The Whammo Players (improv, Tallahassee, FL)
Plus I'm currently producing a sketch comedy pilot for television and doing standup!!!

Here's my training:
UCB levels 1,2 and 3
Chicago City Limits. (with Jon O'Donnel, Victor Varnado, Paul Scheer and Rob Schiffman)
The Pit
Dad's Garage Theater of Atlanta
Plus acting classes with Jose Quintero.

Jose Quintero?!!? The guy that directed the very first run of Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway??!!!???

Yep.

GET MICHAEL!

I formed a practice group last summer and Michael was our coach. Our group was pretty diverse in terms of levels of experience, but Michael worked with us on exactly what needed to be focussed on. He had, like, a zillion different really creative exercises to bring out the skills that everyone most needed to improve upon, and besides that he's wicked funny and extremely cute. Every session we hit the ground running. No lollygagging for half an hour, like in sessions with less experienced coaches I've had. And he'll help you create the kind of show YOU want to work on. So if you're looking for a smart, experienced improvisor to coach your longform, GET MICHAEL.

Thanks Shozbot!!! It was really fun coaching you guys!!! Hope I wasn't too hard on you!!!

Michael
